LEVELS
Cognitive Domain
ADVANCED
Students at the advanced level of learning can expect to be conversant in both the languages. Conversations are long, writing become easier, and taking tests in both the languages are demonstrated with practically no errors.This is the highest level of competency for primary and secondary schooling.
INTERMEDIATE
Students rely on written and visual aids to help in their comprehension of complex words and meanings. The high-end intermediate students, have more extensive knowledge of contextual meaning and can write multiple sentences, paragraphs and creative passages. Thoughts are better organized, with fewer errors.
BASIC
Students get the general idea of what is being said, but usually have difficulties, except in some specific contexts. Students can read and write simple texts and are able to hold a basic conversation about topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Students are able to understand the main ideas of a complex text. They can interact with a degree of spontaneity, but often have trouble with grammar and vocabulary.
ELEMENTARY
At this stage students understand basic phrases and instructions used in specific situations. They interact in a very simple way and use incomplete sentences, without real grammatical content. Students at elementary stage master simple sentences and can write them. They are able to participate in a direct exchange of simple information and use vocabulary that is generally taught in school.
REMEDIAL
The Remedial stage is a complete beginner and students have no prior knowledge of the language, with the exception of perhaps a few key words. A student has very basic knowledge of the language and finds it difficult to produce more than a few key words and phrases. The student struggles to express ideas clearly from language point of view due to limited vocabulary and no real understanding of grammar.
FOUNDATION
At foundation students are taught to understand and communicate through listening, talking, reading, and writing. At this stage the student learns new concepts. Thinking, or cognitive, skills are developed as students learn to think more complexly, make decisions, and solve problems. At the same time, they are encouraged to explore vocabulary, read effectively and begin writing.
